My top 5 Make up, Hair and Skin care staples

We all have them, products that no matter what we absolutely have to have in our beauty collection. After working in the beauty industry for 8 years, i have picked up a lot of favorites, things that i simply cannot be without, and will continue to re-purchase again and again. So today i thought i’d share my top 5 from make up, hair care and skin care, hopefully you will love them as much as i do!

Make up

DSCN0344

1. Real Techniques Brushes – I literally could not apply my make-up without these babies. I love the older collection, particularly the blush brush, but the new bold metals collection is gorgeous and i’m really looking forward to adding more to my kit.

2. Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation – My go to foundation for everything. It smells great, isn’t too cakey or heavy on my skin, applies beautifully, and provides my skin with some nourishment – what more could a girl want!

3. My Naked3 Palette – Eye make up is a chore for me. I love doing my brows, and applying my base and lipstick, but with my eyes i always feel like it takes sooo much effort. This palette makes it easy by putting a bunch of colors all together that have great pigment and blend well. Simples!

4. My Mac 217 brush – I don’t own a lot of Mac, purely because i think they are too pricey, and i am a student. But this brush has to be in my kit, no matter what. Again it boils down to my laziness with my eyes, this blends for me with minimal effort.

5. Gosh Long lasting brow pen – This is the newest thing on this list, but i love it. I hate my brows, they are super dark (like black) which means every little tweezer mistake is visible, and they grow odd no matter what i do. This literally lasts all day, and is so easy even a beginner could manage the perfect brow!

Hair

20150324_143128

1. My GHD’s – Being the unfortunate owner of a head full of very thick, very frizzy hair, sometimes heat is necessary part of my routine, although i do try to limit it as my hair is already damaged due to bleach. I haven’t yet found a straightener that does the job as well as these.

2. VO5 Smoothly does it Shampoo and Conditioner – Serious frizz control, nothing beats this in my opinion.

3. VO5 Smoothly does it serum and heat protection spray – The serum is great for smoothing frizz and flyaways (i have a lot!) and you must ALWAYS protect your hair from heat. I repeat – ALWAYS!

4. Paddle brush – My hair is so thick, i have it thinned out every 6 weeks as it gets heavy and gives me a headache. This brush is big enough to not make brushing it a chore.

5. Sleep In rollers – Hair is another thing i am lazy about, so these are perfect for me. Throw them in before bed and i don’t have to do a thing with it in the morning. And with my hair being so heavy, it often needs a volume boost around the roots.

Skin care

20150324_143342

1. Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean cleanser – Because i tend to wear quite a lot of make up, removing it when i get home is a must. This smells great and leaves my skin feeling clean. Note – this isn’t suitable for those with sensitive skin!

2. Superdrug Vitamin E face moisturizer – I have seriously dry skin, so dry that when i apply moisturizer you can almost hear the slurping sound as it sucks it in! I like this because it’s not too heavy or oily, so when i apply in the morning my make up doesn’t slide off! I apply before bed too!

3. Clean and Clear exfoliating daily face wash – One of the problems i have with my dry skin is flaking, which then leads to spots 😦 so this is a great way to gently remove that without damaging my skin. I use every morning.

4. Vaseline spray and go moisturizer in Cocoa butter – My dry skin doesn’t just stop at my face! This is quick, fast absorbing and smells good.

5. Quick fix Facials intense moisture mask – This is another product that induces a slurping sound from my face, i use this when my skin needs a pick me up and it always feels soft and smooth afterwards!

Well, there you have all my top 5’s! I hope you enjoyed that. Let me know if you have any you’d like to share.

My Make-up Shopping spree

Happy Monday!

I have had a crazy busy weekend. When i wasn’t shopping and spending a ridculous amount of money on make-up, i was redecorating my room and upcycling old furniture 🙂

I made some really great drug store make up purchases on Saturday, so i wanted to share them with you.

haul

So here’s a list of what’s above, and what i think of what i’ve already used.

1. Real techniques starter set and Flat contour (from the bold metals collection) brushes. I already have a lot of RT brushes, and i love them, they literally do all the work for you, perfect for seamlessly blending contour, eye shadow and foundation.

2. T-Zone Pore strips – It;s that time of year when my skin gets really clogged around my nose and chin, these help keep that at bay 🙂

3. B. (Superdrug own brand) Make up Brush cleaner – This is really good value and great when your brushes need a quick spruce. Good brush care is essential to making your more costly brushes last.

4. Tangle teezer – Now i’ve managed to grow my hair, i’m finding that it get’s tangled. This is great to throw in my handbag.

5. Envy false eyelashes – these are from primark! Thought i’d give them a try.

6. Barry M Gelly nail polishes in Prickly pear (lilac), Rose hip (baby pink), and blueberry (blue, obvs). – I have tried these before and loved them, so got some spring colours.

7. Rimmel 60 seconds super shine nail polishes in Breakfast in bed (mint green) and Rain rain go away ( nude, from the Rita Ora collection) – I thought i’d try these as they are less costly than the Barry M and have a nice colour range.

8. Rimmel Lasting finish concealer in Porcelain- I really like the coverage of this, perfect for redness and blemishes, but creases under the eyes.

9. Collection Lasting perfection concealer – This has great coverage and doesn’t crease under the eyes.

10. Gosh long lasting brow pen in Dark Brown – This is a felt tip, really easy to apply short strokes that look like hairs and is reasonably priced. It’s really easy to apply, i love it!

11. Gosh defining brow gel in colour 002 – This is really good for holding stray hairs in place and adding a little bit of definition.

12. Rimmel Scandaleyes eyeliner in Nude – I use this on my lower waterline to make my eyes look bigger. Perfect for spring time make up.

13. B. Stunning Vibrant eye shimmer in Lizzie – This nudey pink cream shadow is a perfect base for lighter spring/summer colours.

14. 17 Peep show mascara in Black – This has lengthening fibres, isn’t clumpy and is really defining.

15. Sleek Blush pallette in Pink Lemonade – This has 3 colours; Icing sugar (powder), Macaroon (cream), and Pink Mint (powder). I absolutely love sleek blushes, they are super pigmented, which makes them long lasting, the colour variety is amazing and they are such good value for money!

What do you think of my beauty buys? Is there anything you think should or shouldn’t be on my list?

Let me know in the comments, i’d love to hear what you think.

Seventeen Gel colour Nail polish review

Another beauty bargain today.

I picked this up while having a little browse around Boots the other day, and the colour stood out enough to get my attention.

I’m really liking all of these spring colours at the moment!

I like this polish, it does have a ‘gel’ look, and is really high shine.

The only downside i would say is that it takes aaaaages to dry, i applied 2 thin coats, followed by a top coat, and it was softish a few hours later, so not a polish for those who are in a rush.

But for only £3.99 it does the job nicely, and the colour range is really good.

I picked the colour ‘mint bon bon’. (Apologies that you can see my acrylic nails, i really need infills but haven’t had the time!)

My bucket list

YOLO

A lot has changed for me recently. I’ve discovered a lot of passions i never knew i had, and i am leaving the world of work to go back to school and become a nurse.

It got me to thinking, there are a lot of things i want to do with my life, and unless i put them on on paper (or on blog) they may get forgotten about in the day-to-day movement of life, so i compiled a bucket list.

I gave myself a few rules. They have to be realistic, and within my power (not something i want from someone else). I also have no limit on the number of goals on this list, as i don’t believe on putting limits on aspirations.

So here it is, my bucket list:

  1. Design and decorate my own dream house.
  2. Milk a cow.
  3. Sell my own crafts at a fair.
  4. Go behind the scenes at Disney world.
  5. Walk across the Golden Gate Bridge.

  16. Stand on the Equator.
  17. Cuddle a Lion cub.
  18. See the Northern Lights.
  19. Attend the yearly sale at Harrods department store in London.
  20. Walk behind a waterfall.
  21. Solve Rubik’s cube.
  22. Bake a four layer cake.
  23. Make a Tiramisu.
  24. Learn to play chess.
  25. Have a monkey sit on my shoulder.
  26. Close my eyes, point to a location on a map, then go there.
  27. Have a walk-in wardrobe (with a whole cupboard just for make-up).
  28. Travel first class.
  29. Know the difference between Stalagmites and Stalactites.
  30. Spend New Years Eve in Times Square.
  31. Hire a personal shopper.
  32. Pick coffee beans in Brazil.
  33. Help educate the public that Mental illness is illness.
  34. Travel to Egypt.
  35. Own a really good camera.
  36. Shear a Sheep.
  37. Spend a day as a Penguin keeper at a zoo.
  38. Roll in the mud.
  39. Learn to cook genuine Southern Fried Chicken.
  40. Hear the Bells of Notre Dame.
  41. Donate blood.
  42. Wash my hair in rain water.
  43. Paint a mural on my wall.
  44. Win at Twister.

I will continue adding to this list throughout my life, but i am so glad i have it all recorded somewhere.

Is there anything on my list you’d love to do, or is there something you think you would add?

I’d love to hear what you all think ❤

Seventeen Berry crush Lip Stain Review

I am always on the hunt for a good beauty bargain, However you do tend to find that the cheaper brands just don’t compare to the more expensive ones 😦

I was on route to work on Monday and realised that in my rush to get out the door i hadn’t put anything on my lips! A make up sin if there ever was one! Luckily for me there is a boots right outside my office, so i popped in to see what they had.

I didn’t have fortunes to spend, so i saw these lip stains and thought that’d do for one day, and went to the office to put it on.

I have never been so pleasantly amazed by a cheaper make up product!

The stain is in a felt tip form, has great colour pay out, doesn’t feel dry and tight on my lips and literally stays put ALL day. I had 2 meals and a drink, and it didn’t budge. It also has a balm at the other end, which is beautiful. My lips felt plump and soft all day. And to top it off, it smells gorgeous, like berries 🙂

stainfeltbalm

I loved it so much i went back this morning and bought another colour! It has a good colour range, going from soft pinks, to orangey tones, to bright reds.

prettypinkpeachy

‘Pretty Pink’ (left) and ‘Peachy’ (right).

At only £4.99 each they are an absolute steal!

I LOVE them.

Let me know if you try them out 🙂

The unwritten rules of the tube (that everyone should follow)

I am one of those many unfortunate people who have to commute every single day. I live outside London, but the area i live in is classed as a ‘London Borough’ which means everything is what i call ‘London prices’. If i have any hope of surviving financially, i have no choice but to do the 1.5-2 hour journey into the city everyday.

I actually don’t mind it, i can sleep, read, watch the world go by out of the window, or reflect on my day on the journey home. However, the thing that really gets me is RUDE people! You all know who i mean, there’s always one who makes your journey feel like a battleground.

It got me to thinking, there should be RULES. Like properly enforced ones. Unfortunately, we no longer live in a world where morals and respect are high priorities for most people, so for things to work effectively, rules have to be put in place.

So here are a few i think would be really useful!

1. Don’t sit on the outside seat. If there is an empty seat next to the window, take it. Don’t sit on the outside, then huff and puff and moan when the next person needs to climb OVER you to sit down.

2. Don’t put your bags on the seat, or your feet for that matter.

3. Don’t barge your way on to a packed tube. Yes we all want to get to work quickly, but for all you know there could be a small child/elderly person/pregnant woman in the middle of that crowd. The tubes are 2-3 minutes apart, just wait for the next one.

4. While we’re on the subject of pregnant/elderly/children, don’t hide behind your paper/phone/tablet when you see them. They need it more than you, give up your seat.

5. Also, if a woman LOOKS pregnant, she probably is. You don’t have to embarrass her, just ask if she would like a seat, if she’s pregnant, she will thank you, if not, she’ll just think you’re an extremely nice person 🙂

6. Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. There are thousands of people on the underground, that equals billions of germs. None of us want them, so please keep them to yourself.

7. Don’t let your children run up and down the carriage screaming. I once had to stop a toddler from climbing out of the doors between carriages because his mother was too busy on her phone to notice, and then she gave me a filthy look for stopping her child. You had them, you look after them.

8. And while on the subject of children, don’t be so grumpy. Yes we are all tired and would rather still be in bed, but if a small child smiles at you, smile back. If you don’t, you destroy their view of how beautiful the world is, and i’m sure you wish you still saw it that way.

9. Don’t be afraid to make some conversation. There seems to be a fear of putting down the electronics and actually talking to one another. You might make a friend, meet a lover or learn something new, take a risk and say hi, or comment on someone’s outfit or handbag. It’s nice to be complimented, you could make their day.

10. Don’t judge. While we would all like this to be a perfect world, we all know it’s not. That guy who you shouted at for bumping into you may have just buried a loved one, or lost his job, or his home. We are all entitled to bad days, just remember that by offering a smile rather than a scream or a shout, you could turn someone’s bad day into a good one!

I really hope you enjoyed these, i really enjoyed writing them. If you have any others i haven’t thought of please do let me know, i’d love to hear what you think!

Mum’s Italian Chicken Soup Recipe :)

I love my mum. And i love my mum’s cooking! So as it’s mother’s day, i thought i’d share one of my favorite recipes that she cooks for me, and taught me how to cook!

This soup is so tasty, and so versatile, you can cook it for a big pot so all the family can help themselves (it’s great in the winter!) or split it into pots for freezing and use as meals throughout the week (I take mine to work for lunch!). It’s easy to make, and only needs one pot.

Ingredients

  • 4 Chicken Thighs
  • 3 Carrots
  • 3 Shallots (or one onion if you can’t get these)
  • 250g Brown rice (you can use white if you prefer, just reduce the cooking time)
  • 2 chicken stock cubes
  • 1tsp ground coriander

Recipe

chickencooking

Cooking the chicken.

1. Fill a large saucepan with cold water, place on a medium heat and add the chicken thighs. Cover and cook for at least 1 hour, but no more than 2.

veg

Ready to chop the veg.

2. While this is cooking, chop your shallots and carrot and place in a separate bowl for later. (I like mine chunky, but it’s really up to you).

chicken

De-boning the chicken.

3. Once the chicken is cooked, remove from the water, remove the skin and break the chicken into chunks. Then add the chicken back to the water that you cooked it in, discard the bones and skin.

4. Add the veg, stock cubes, and coriander, and allow to cook for a further 15 minutes.

5. Then add the rice. Brown rice takes about 40 minutes on a very low simmer, white rice takes a lot less time than this so keep an eye on it.

6. Continue to stir occasionally, making sure it hasn’t dried out and the rice isn’t sticking to the pan.

When it’s ready, dish up and eat….mmmm yummy!

Finished  Finishedpots

If you are freezing it, separate into pots and allow to cool completely before freezing. It is also suitable to re-heat the next day, and i think it’s even tastier!

Let me know if you enjoy making it!

Mint Choc Macarons…..Mmmm Yummy <3

Mint Choc Macarons 🙂

These are easy to do for the beginner baker, and make great snack for a party or just as a treat 🙂

Ingredients – This makes about 30

  • 175g Icing Sugar
  • 125g Ground Almondsingred
  • 3 Large Egg whites
  • A pinch of Salt
  • 75g Caster Sugar
  • Peppermint Extract
  • Green food colouring (optional)

For the Filling

  • 150g unsalted butter – softened
  • 75g Icing Sugar
  • 75g Chocolate spread

Recipe

1. Pre-heat your oven to 170 degrees (reduce slightly if using a fan oven) and line some baking trays with non stick baking paper. (I used 3 trays, and did 2 rounds of baking).

baketrays foodproc

2. Put the Icing sugar and ground almonds in a food processor and blitz until fine, then sift into a bowl.

thickandglossy

This is what it should look like after the caster sugar has been added.

3. Whisk the Egg whites and salt (use an electric whisk if possible, it’ll save your arms!) until they are soft peaks, then gradually whisk in the caster sugar until it looks thick and glossy.

4. Add the mint extract (about 3 cap-fulls, depending on how minty you want them) and food colouring if you are using that, then whisk in. Fold in half the almond and icing sugar, then add the second half and fold until it is shiny and has a ribbon like consistency.

5. Spoon it in to a piping bag, i like to put the bag in a pint glass to make this easier and less messy.

readytobake

Ready for the oven!

pipingbag

So much easier to do it in a glass!

6. Pipe 2cm sized rounds on to the baking trays, and give the tray a sharp tap on the counter to release any air bubbles. Now let them rest for around 15 minutes, they should form a kind of skin, so you should be able to lightly touch them without getting any on you finger.

7. Once rested, bake them in the oven for 10-15 minutes (you’ll know when they are ready, they won’t be soft.) Take them out and allow to cool completely. baked macs

8. To make the filling, beat the butter until light and fluffy, add the icing sugar and chocolate spread and mix thoroughly.

9. Once the macarons are cooled, sandwich them together with the chocolate filling. Then make a cuppa, sit back and enjoy!! (And get someone else to do the washing up for you!)

I hope you enjoyed making these as much as i did! Don’t forget to send me your pictures on dannidollydaydream@gmail.com!

Mmmmm...Yummy!

Mmmmm…Yummy!

Sleep In Rollers!

siroll

I was skeptical about these, as i am with most things that promise to give my heavy, limp, extremely thick hair some bounce!

I was pleasantly surprised though.

The only let down i would say is that they are not particularly comfortable to wear in bed. I did sleep, but i kept waking up with a pin digging in, or i’d lay awkwardly and it’d hurt!

But the results are SOOoOooo worth it….

My hair was full of volume and i felt like Farrah Fawcett-Majors!

They we’re reasonably easy to put in and take out, and the only other thing you need is a small spray bottle with water.

The little carry bag they come with is so sweet, perfect for a girls night in.

I give them and 8/10, if only they could invent a bobby bin that doesn’t dig in!
